Indicated Mean Effective Pressure Calculator

Indicated mean effective pressure(IMEP) is defined as the average pressure produced in the combustion chamber during the operating cycle. It is also known as the indicated horsepower or the theoretical, frictionless power. Use this Indicated mean effective pressure calculator which calculates mean effective pressure from in-cylinder pressure over compression and expansion portion of the engine cycle. This IMEP calculation helps to fine tune the engine performance.

Formula:

IMEP = (A / L) x Constant Where, IMEP = Indicated Mean Effective Pressure A = Area of Indicator Diagram L = Base Length of Indicator Diagram C = Constant

Example:

Calculate the indicated mean effective pressure of the 4 stroke engine from the datas of graph.Area of indicator is 500mm2, Base length of indicator is 25mm and the constant is 8.9.

Solution:

IMEP = (A / L) x Constant
= (500 / 25) x 8.9
= 178 kPa
