Formula:

A = (N x V1 x W) / (V2 x 10) Where, A = Percentage of Acid N = Normality of Titrant V1 = Volume of Titrant W = Equivalent Weight of Predominant Acid V2 = Volume of Sample

Titrimetry Calculation Example:

Calculate the percentage of acid if it takes 20.5ml of 0.085N NaOH to titrate a 10ml sample of a juice, the total titratable acidity of that juice is expressed as percent citric acid. (molecular weight = 192, equivalent weight = 64).

Solution:

Percentage of Acid = (N x V1 x W) / (V2 x 10)
= (0.085 x 20.5 x 64) / (10 x 10)
Percentage of Acid = 1.1152 %
