Absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is a measure of the number of neutrophils granulocytes present in the blood. Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell that fights against infection.
ANC (cells/mm3) = [(Neutrophil % + Band Cells %) x Total WBC] / 100
Where,
ANC - Absolute Neutrophil Count
WBC - White Blood Cells
If ANC is lessthan 500 then the patient will be at risk for infection by a variety of pathogens.
